As a native of Lorain County, Williams is a homegrown leader. After graduating from a failing school district, he ultimately attended and graduated from Oberlin College, becoming a first-generation college student.
After attending schools on opposite ends of the spectrum, Williams realized the disparity between local school districts and Oberlin College. Being solution driven, he saw this discrepancy as an opportunity and formed Get with the Program, Inc.
Get with the Program is a 501(c)(3) organization that promotes and reinforces literacy in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) among preschool and school-aged children. Their pilot afterschool program, The STEM Academy, showed measurable increases in creative problem solving, mental focus, and cognitive integrity among 36 first and second grade students at Eastwood Elementary School.
Overcoming adversity, instilled in Williams a passion and know-how to help children in similar situations. Overcoming the negative experiences of his youth provided him with a deep understanding of poverty and its intersection with education, insight that cannot be gleaned from a book.
As a parent and local community leader, Williams wants the best for his children and their school district.
